The legislative team at Flaherty & Hood coordinated and staffed the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities (CGMC) Legislative Action Day on March 11.
The CGMC’s annual lobbying event was a huge success, with more than 115 city officials and business leaders from over 50 cities in attendance.
The day began with a update in which Flaherty & Hood lobbyists shared information about CGMC’s top legislative priorities and provided tips on how to lobby at the Capitol. Following the update, the CGMC welcomed several distinguished guests to address the crowd. First up was Governor Tim Walz, who made a brief appearance in which he stressed ongoing support for Local Government Aid, as well as the importance of passing a large bonding bill that addresses critical needs for Greater Minnesota communities. He was followed by lunch and a panel discussion featuring Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka, Senate Minority Leader Susan Kent and House Deputy Minority Leader Anne Neu.
Attendees spent the afternoon meeting with legislators at the Capitol and urging them to support CGMC proposals on child care, water infrastructure, bonding and other issues. In keeping with CGMC tradition, the day was capped off with a legislative reception and dinner at Mancini’s, where a bipartisan mix of more than 50 legislators representing both rural and urban districts mingled with CGMC members over a meal of steak or walleye.
